Do you think high school should train kids for good jobs, like drafting etc? |
I have always wondered why they don't have lots of high school classes that train kids for really good jobs, and have classes like collage classes so kids could go from high school into good jobs. I think of computer assisted drafting, word processing, programming, nursing assitant, and many others. What does a high school education prepare you to be in terms of getting a job that pays well? No. Most high school students have no idea what they want to do with their life. For that matter, neither do a lot of college students and adults. Most people will do at least one complete career change in their working life. no yes they should. My high school actually had two programs, one was called CDA (Construction Design Academy) and another was HCA (Health Careers Academy). I was in HCA and it helped out ALOT! They do have college classes available for high school students. At least in my state they do (MD) but you aren't ever going to be able to get a college education in high school. I live here in Texas, and personally I think they need to teach more on subjects that will actually be used in day to day life. You know, shopping the best buy, balancing a check book, figuring you time, payroll, taxes. Yes, I think it is a great idea for kids that want a vocation and don't want to take the route of a four year college or a trade school. Where I went to high school, they had a program called ROP, or Regional Occupational Program. Kids were able to learn skills like video production, graphic design, CAD/CAM, and a few other areas while getting high school credit. Many of the course were on campus at a local junior college, so some people were exposed to college at an early age and decided to take that route instead. YES! they should have schools that get you fully certified in your field of work you want. like computers. you should have a microsoft mcse and comptia network+ a+ certifications. that way you can get that entry level job and go pay for your own college degree! Yes, that would make the world a better place. Yes and No, I do feel that they should offer more than just the "hey go to college" route. Other vocational/occupational careers are just as if not better options for many children vs. college. I don't, however, feel they should train anyone in any specific career. I luckily went to a HS that had journalism, photography, CAD, Fashion Design, etc as ELECTIVES. That was the coolest thing, you could try classes you had interest in without signing your life away to it. |
