SAHMs, how long do you plan on staying home? |
I'm just kinda wondering what everyone else out there is doing, or planning on doing that is! lol! I am a SAHM and our plan is for me to stay home full time until all of our kids are in school. Then I am planning on finishing the 1 year that I have left to earn my bacheoler's degree in Elementary Education (have a degree right now in nursing and another 3/4 of a bacheoler's in biology), but anyways, then subsitute teach at the local school (which would only be like 1 day a week, if that), and then I would start teaching full time after all of our kids have graduated from high school. I think that it's important to be there for your kids also when they are in highschool as that is one of the toughest times of their lives and they need as stress-free of an environment at home as is possible. It helps too for there to be someone there for them to talk to. What does everyone else plan on doing? I think it's so cool that more and more moms are making the transition to being SAHMs! when my youngest is in school i plan on becoming a NICU nurse a few days a week, if my kids get home before me thats fine because my mom lives next door and can watch them for a few hours or whatever. i love being a sahm though, and might decide not to work until the kids are grown... we'll see i guess Honestly, as long as I can. Even when they are in school if they come home at 3 and you work till 5 you have a latchkey kid. I'm hoping, praying to stay home with them at least till high school! i'm gonna stay home till they go to school I'm gonna stay home till the kids are in school. then I plan on only getting a job during the morning hours so i can be home with them after school as well. I have a 7 & 2 year old and I am due with our 3rd any day. I will be staying home until my two year old starts school and we can afford to put our youngest in a good daycare or have a sitter come to the house. I have one child - have been a SAHM since he was born. He is now 13 and I am still at home, although I work from home in our family business. Well, what I plan on doing is staying home full time until they are all in school then working part-time at my church's pre-school program 2 days a week. That way I will still be home every day when they get home from school and I still have 3 days a week to run errands, do housework or help out at their school.I plan on doing this until they get into highschool and then I will work on going to college and getting a degree in something but still be home when they get home and once all are in college I will go back to work full-time. I agree about the importance of being home when your kids get home from school all the way through school until they graduate!! When they are teenagers they rebel so much b/c they are relying on their parents to set the boundries and show them some guidance they really crave consistency in their lives and for someone to be there for them to rely on for help. I want to give my kids the best childhood and in my opinion that means staying home with them. I would like to stay home with him forever... and maybe get a night time job... but with raising prices now-a-days, its getting hard to do. I wanted to go back to work but I wa sick with my Boy and he was huge so he had heart probs at first and now at 2 he isn't talking very well yet so I have to be home for speach and eia I hope when he goes to school full time I can start grooming atleast till 2 so I can be home for them I like to know what they are doing Untill my son is in school. (or any other children, if we have them) After that, i plan on getting a part time job to help bring in some income. Well I don't have kids yet but I will be a Stay at home mom until I die. In other words once I have kids I will be a Stay at home mom my entire life. Forever. Part of being the at-home-parent is supporting the working parent. Even when the kids are in school there is much to do to keep the household running smoothly! I plan on staying home until my youngest is in school. I'm working on my degree right now so I should be done by the time she's in kindergarten and I can get a job. I plan on substitute teaching too, so if I need a day off for something I don't have to call off. I'll be able to chose what days I want to work. Money can be tight sometimes, but they're only little once and I want to be there for everything. I have a 9 year old son and a 13 year old daughter. I quit my full time job after 10 years to be with my kids. I ended up working at their private school as Marketing Director for 4 years, it was perfect. We went to school together and came home together. I have been a stay at home mom for 8 years and I honestly don't know if I will ever go bak to work. If I go back it will probably be after they finish school so that way I am always their for them if they need me. My mom was a stay at home mom and she just went back to work and my youngest sibling is 20 years old and she only works part time. I enjoy what I do.. being a mom is what I was meant to do! I've been a SAHM for 16 years! My oldest is starting his Senior year this fall and my youngest is starting Kindergarten. I know, quite the gap, uh? I feel truly blessed to be a SAHM of 3 all these years. My husband and I decided before we had children about the importance of me being home with them. I wouldn't change a thing. I also want to add I have nothing against working mothers. |
