What should a nurse learn to become a doctor assistant? Thanks a lot!?

Hello everyone, i'm a 19 years old girl who is gonna study nursing in Australia Catholic University, however my dream is always become a doctor, I wonder if i had a chance to achieve my dream, what should i continuing learning after i got my nursing degree? If there is any chances for me to be a doctor or a doctor assistant? As a chinese girl, i'm not so familiar to western education, if friend could help me, please send me email or just answer the questions here, Thanks very much to all of u!!! Thank you!

I don't know how it is out there but in America Nurses with 5 years experience after getting a MS in Nursing can take a test to become NP (Nurse Practioners) which is just like a Physican Assistant. You consult with a Doctor periodically. You get to Recomend Medications (a form of Script, possibly with limitations, but it's not officially a PRESCRIPTION, it's a recommendation) that are subject to Doctors Approval and adjustment (the Pharmacist can ask to call your supervising Doctor for verification).

You can actually open up an office and see patients, but you have to be affiliated with a Doctor who oversees what care your are providing.

Why don't you just become a doctor. It only takes 4 more years if you are going for a BS program in nursing.

Yeah, there's more math and biology and chemistry...

If you want to go to school to be a doctor, go to school to be a doctor, not a nurse! Really, they work together closely, but they are two completely different schools of thought. If you want to become a physician assistant or nurse practitioner, stick with nursing school - it will get you there. But if you want to become an actual DO or MD, stick with med school.
