Where do I start? Who can help me? Can I do it?

I'm a mother of 4, & I don't have a HS diploma. I want be a RN/critical care nurse. My children are getting older, fincance is low, and transportation is down. I went from a 19hr job to minumum wage (6hr) job so i can be home with the kids to monitor what's going on. One child is disable, and the others are middle age kids. I've tried everything & I'm not getting real family surport is there. I want to help my kids get the best education out of life. I realize that in order to help them I have to help myself first. I'm with carring for others, but I need document proof in order to do what I love. Can you help me? A free program, advice, some guidance, something helpful would do right now, I'm tired of living paycheck...... not even paycheck by paycheck, but change to change. I'm starting to feel like I'm living in a box, and I don't want to feel that way.

HELP HELP HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

Are you sure becoming an RN is really what you need to be focused on? It sounds like to me, you really need to focus on increasing your income first, then move towards your educational and long term goals.

I was once where you are, no education, 2 kids - caring for 4 more, a single mother, and I worked two jobs and went to school in the evenings. I dropped out of college when I realized I'd just be stuck in the same old grind.

I now work as a coach and consultant, helping others acheive a life of their dreams. I consult with fortune 100 companies and single business owners and people looking to transition. I went from making minimum wage and breaking my back to making six figures plus a year in less than 4 years. But it took a complete change in my mindset and my willingness to make it happen.

I was there, skipping meals so I could feed my kids, wearing rags so my kids had clothes and I could pay the electric bill.
I have been where you are today.

You have to have THREE things in place to make your dreams a reality. Make the change in your mind FIRST, before change will come in other areas of your life:

courage to do ALL the hard work, no matter what the work may be.

willingness to let go of all the negativity, excuses, and fear.

A DREAM, a GOAL that you live for, breathe for, envision every day, every night, something you have written down and posted everywhere so that you know that you have to stop focusing on the HOW, and start focusing on the WHAT.

The amazing thing that happens is this: by focusing on what you want to acheive, by envisioning your goals in as real, physical detail as possible, the HOW stops being so overwhelming. The How needs to be flexible.

You need to focus on the YOU you need to become. I hear a lot of pain, a lot of desperation, but you also need to break free of those negative feelings and you need to break free of the naysayers in your life.

You don't need a HS diploma, you need your GED. There are plenty of programs that provide GED tests and test preps for free. A social worker in your area should be able to help you qualify for the GED.

Second: start slow: take a phlebotomy or lab tech certification course at a community college, not at those training institutions, they cost way too much. Increase your income earning by taking each small step at a time. plebotomists make between $12/14 an hour, and takes one semester to complete the training. Do a tour of duty with an RN, and make certain you REALLY want to do that job. Its a hard road, and its not filled with much pleasantness.

Third: take your LVN training: that takes 1.5 years I believe in some states. Now you make more money, but you work under an RN.

Fourth: now you can study for your RN while you work.

you should qualify easily for FAFSA funding http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ (grants, student loans) so you should have no issues for getting free money for school.

I don't know where you live, so I can't give you much advice on the free programs you have in your area.

I'll be happy to give you guidance on what it takes to walk the path to change

I hope this helps you. God bless and best of luck.

I'm looking for a job that pays little bit more than the 1 I have. I have time at home; about 3hrs which I'm going 2 split in half between my kids & myself 4 study & pray.
How am I'm doing so far? Report It

check in your local community center. sometimes they offer classes for mothers (like typing and word processing for free) at least it can get u in the door, maybe doing medical billing. if u get in the door some jobs pay for schooling, tuition reimbursement as long as you go ointo thefiled. let them know thats you intention. keep searching around. try gettng a recruitment agency/head hunter to help you find a job that offers this. this way you can learn hands on andhave ur education paid for by your employer.

first off seek a nearby school that can help you achieve that dream. Most schools or programs are funded with little or no cost and those people would have a wealth of knowledge about scholarships.

Good Luck

so,, if you can leave your kids with someone while you go to school for 4 yrs,, you can maybe get some government grants for school. You'd also have to get on welfare to pay rent, buy food, pay utilities, etc. You can be an RN in as little as 2 yrs if you have excellent grades but since you didn't finish HS, you will have to take tard classes in college to catch up and make excellent grades to get into nursing school. They have more people trying to get in than they have room for, so they will only take the ones that are smartest and have the least amount of drama in their lives..
To be blunt,, you've dug a deep hole for yourself and kids,,
Get a couple of part time jobs, if the kids father is not paying support have him thrown in jail. (at least there he wont make more) If you can't make ends meet,, get on welfare ...
