I think I want to be a nurse, what does that entail?

I want to be a nurse that specializes in paediatrics and works in a private practice(maybe write some prescriptions). What type of education does that entail? Would I need to major in nursing, or just do a pre-nursing program and major in bio or chem, or any science? Is nursing school my post-grad education, or is it a master's degree?

In the US you need a BSc in Nursing to be an RN, so it's a major.

To write prescriptions, you need to be at least a Nurse Practioner, which is the equivalent of a Master's Degree, with a batchelor's in Nursing. Or, of course, you could take premed courses, go for an MD and specialize in Nursing.
