I;m still in high school, but i'm looking into college?

I'm a sophomore in high school...and I'm looking at a career in either nursing or early childhood education...does anyone from maine know of any good colleges with these kinds of careers?

I am not from maine but wanted to help you out. Many community colleges have nursing programs. These are Associate level education and are very good. It will take approx 3 1/2 of school work to get your associate with pre req work. A 4 year university will take 4 years of course and you will get a bachelors degree. A bachelor nurse vs a associate nurse is not different in the job market. They are paid the same and do the same work. In fact experience is the way you increase your income in nursing. Bachelor level nurses can go into management which is the main difference. Of course if you want to get a master you have to get a bachelors first. I would apply to both kinds of programs. Getting into nursing school is extremly difficult, maximize your chance. Also being in high school right now i would suggest doing running start. This is where you take community college classes instead of your high school classes for free. Get your math bio 101 chem 101 and english 101 done at the CC level, you will have to retake them if you already took them in high school. its so stupid. unless your class in high school was a AP class it wont count for **** in college. Good luck!

I am not from Maine, but I want to warn you against going to online or for-profit colleges such as Kaplan University or the like. The reason why I do this is because the areas you are looking at are exactly the areas these second rate institutions are going after. Instead focus on someplace like the University of Maine or even begin in the community college system in that state. Much better education and those schools will not cheat you out of money that you will eventually have to pay back. Try this website http://u101.com/colleges/Maine/

There is a list of colleges in your state and you can examine the departments of each one. Again, I saw Capella on there, and it is one of those schools I was telling you about. There only concern is getting you enrolled and gettting the government to give you a loan for $30K, which will cost you $100K before you are done.

By the way, nursing is difficult to get into in most states. There are so many students trying to do this, and there are not enough seats and faculty available for the demand. But if your grades are pretty good and you truely want to do that career then you'll get in. Just make sure it is what you want to do. Two great career choices. Just make sure it is something you will want to do when you are 35 as well.
