Double Major..is it wise?

Double major in art education and in nursing?

i know this sounds silly considering the course load. but i do like both with an equal passion. i do hospital volunteer and taking prereqs for nursing, but lately my part time jobs have often been something to do with teaching and children. my first job was babysitting and second is assistant teacher...im also excited about being a qualified peer tutor at campus...i also like art a lot. has anyone done double major in nursing and another....i need an outsider's point of view...

I have a double major at the moment, actually, and it seems to be working well. You have to remember that college is about expanding your horizons as well as preparing you for a career, so there is nothing frivolous about having a double major. If you like art and nursing, then go for it! You will never go wrong becoming more educated, certainly. You may want to consider pursuing a double major in fields more closely related depending on your career plans, though, if you are worried about that.

If you like to teach, you could consider getting your doctorate in Nursing and becoming a professor. You could even become a graphic illustrator in the health field, drawing anatomical figures for textbooks or magazines. You may like to be a psychologist or psychiatrist, working with children in a psychiatric hospital.

its very wise

A lot of people do a double major. The course load is not that much more, because usually you have tons of electives. Instead of taking electives, you can take the classes necessary for your second major. Also, almost all colleges require the same core courses, regardless of major. That means you don't have to take double the number of classes. Remember, your concentration or major is only PART of your college education.

Good luck!

no i don't think its wise..at least pick 2 majors that relates to each other in some way..for example i have to majors architecture & civil engineering , u can combine between engineering or art & business...but nursery & art...pooof ,won't be that much helpful

Great idea. I did it and many of my prospective employers love the fact that i am interchangeable in two fields.
They pay more money to!!!!
Also, if one doesn't work out, you have something else to fall back on.

There is one thing to be concerned with...

I once considered doing a double Major, but found one coursework at odds with the other. On top of that, the coursework for both Majors were set up in a way that missing one requisite meant delaying my degree by one year. Financially speaking, I couldn't afford to spend an additional year in college, so I had to choose between the two.

So...

If you can handle the course load and pressure, then go for it.

BUT make sure you are prepared to evaluate which one to be your primary focus. That way, if your classes start getting into a scheduling conflict, you'll know which one to put first, and can delay taking the other for a semester/quarter, if it's possible and affordable for you.

Good luck!

I say go for it.
I did a double major in Physics and English, two subjects that are almost completely different. But i found that i'm able to write a great essay and i'm also able to write a great lab report.

I realized what you realized too: that i don't want to deny one talent or passion to pursue another. The workload was hard for a while there (the second-last and last years were the hardest) because most people have decided if they want to be in a Science or an Art so they scheduled the classes at the same times. "Who would need to take both?" they thought. HAH!

Anyway, i'm glad i did the double major because i'm very proud of both. If you're capable enough to have those two passions and keep them strong and nurtured this long, then pursuing both in your education shouldn't be too difficult for you.

Good luck, keep at it!!
