I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems. It is really hard to find a job in this field in this particular area and I don't have the funds to relocate right now. I was thinking about going back to college to get a degree in nursing or education. I am unemployed right now and would definitely like to start college in the summer. If anyone have any solution to my problem please help me. Your best option would be to try to get a Graduate Assistantship through your masters degree program.
Quite often when students come to earn an MA/MS or up to a PhD, the school will often hire you to teach 1 or 2 classes to undergraduates per semester. They will pay you a salary (small one) and waive your tuition.
I would definately ask the MA program you are interested in if there are any open Graduate Assistantship programs available, and what you have to do to get one.
other than that you can take courses part time, and work while taking classes. Most universities have payment plans for classes meaning you just need to make a monthly payment which is often easier than making one lump sum payment for your classes.
But your best bet if you don't want loans is the GA position. it depends where do you live? Yes, I believe it is called the stripper program-very highly reccomended There's a program called the Armed Forces. Some jobs will pay for part of your schooling as a benefit. Try getting a job with "tuition reimbursment". You may have to get a medical job to get them to pay for medical training. There are some jobs in hospitals that do not require medical training (like the people who set up/take down surgical rooms). I can't believe that you are having a difficult time finding a job. In fact, IT always has a shortage of workers. Every company, hospital, university, school, etc has an IT dept. I would suggest that you continue to look for a job in your field. It seems like you are jumping into another degree just to get a job. set up your own company doing IT there are plenty of scholarship funds available for nursing, so i say try it. if you dont like it, try something else, but since the money is good, and demand for nurses are high, i bet you'll like it.
There are government loans & grants, and then there are private loans & scholarships.
try to aim for grants/scholarships more... they are not to be paid back. its confusing sometimes, but just keep applying. Scholarships usually have a 1 or 2 page application, and require an essay. Take your time with the essay, so yours stands out.
every big (and small) company you see (manufacturer, orgs, corps and groups also) all have grants and scholarships they hand out like candy. Walmart, Kmart, Target, Coke, computer companies etc etc etc

Also contact all mens, womens associations in your state, they almost always have grants & scholarships. What ever field you are going into, contact the orgs, associations etc for them; Also check with professional organizations related to your career interests, such as the American Bar Association or the American Medical Association. they also always have scholarships. Research and dig, call then write. Its all worth it.
OVER apply; it doesnt hurt to have too many, and the extra funds can help with housing.
