I am 31 years old and i am starting a course at college access to higher education course? |
this is to get into uni i know by doing this i can become a nurse, social worker and midwife but does anyone know which other careers i could have by doing this course as i am unsure what i want to do i am 41 and i completed a access course in 2006, went straight to uni and have just completed my 1st year on a psychology and counselling course. you can do any social science course which includes such things as criminology, law, English history etc, why not get a university prospectus that will give you all the info you need. GOOD LUCK with you're studies, i hope you enjoy them as much as i am. Not sure - but good luck, i'm thinking of going back to college - don't know what couse to do thou x what is college access? generally speaking you need to have over 4 years of college to be a true social worker with licence and all, and it has to be from an accredited university. I have just completed my 2nd year on access. Some of my friends are going into Forensic science and criminology, speech therapy, archaeology, history and criminology, psychology, law and criminology. I could go on, but it is up-to you what career path you want to take. On the course you will have the opportunity to study a variety of subjects. You will find that as the course progresses, one or more subjects will interest you more than others. By the end of the course you should have a firmer idea of which direction you want to go in, and which career will be the most appropriate for you. Good luck! I'm 27 and doing the same course as you. If you are unsure what you want to do you need to look into this in much more detail. You have to complete 60 hours of work in the area that you want to study, this will help towards your uni application. It would probably be a good idea to call the college and ask before you do the course. Good luck Access to University courses are accepted for articulation into most degree courses. Exceptions tend to be medicine and allied professions...including some nursing courses. You need to contact the university you are thinking of attending and ask if their are any restirctions to the courses you can apply for. Hi I am 44 and half ways through my Access to higher Education course. It really depends on which Access course you are doing. There are normally 3 options , Science, Humanities, and Health and Social Care. If you have chosen Health and Social Care then you will be restricted in your choice of career; that is mainly health related jobs such as those you have mentioned. The best and most popular choice is Humanities. It will give you a wider scope when you are applying for what ever degree you may choose to do. Depending on how well you do on the Access course will ultimately decide which degree you can do. The target is to get around 65%, this will leave you with a good chance og getting into the degree you may wish to do. Humanities can lead to carees in computers, psychology, teaching, social work, occupational therapy, and many more. I really enjoyed the first year and in the second year I can choose the modules that I consider will lead me to my degree choice. One piece of advice I would give you, is be prepared as it can be tough going. I seen many of my classmates struggle with the work load;especially the maths. I would recommended having GCSE English and Maths under your belt before you tackle any Access course. So good luck |
