How hard is additional education to become a CRNA?

I am referring to being a Nurse Anesthetist. I live in Texas if that makes a difference.

Just to clarify, I already know that you have to be a licensed RN, have acute experience, etc. I'm referring to the actual education of going through the CRNA program itself.

I am a CRNA student at the University of New England in Maine. I just finished my first semester, and three people out of my class of thirty failed out. My program has a very strict policy and if you have an average below 80% in any class you are out of the program.

My brother in law failed out of a program in NC a few years back. I think that most programs typically lose a few students every year.

The challenge is that you are taking advanced courses in anatomy, pharmacology, and physiology, and the concepts are difficult. No amount of nursing experience would teach you what you need to learn for these courses.

So, basically, go for it and do your best. It will be hard (many of my classmates say that it is the hardest thing they have ever attempted).

Good luck!
