Where can I apply for an education grant?

I am going to go back to school sometime in February or March. This will probably be a small classes type school, like a 6month course in nursing / dental asst / real estate, things like that. I would like to be able to know if I qualify for a federal grant to cover book expenses and the cost of the classes. I do have 2 kids and not alot of time, so I'd like to know about the grant FIRST, before I listen to every school's "speech" about how great thier school is, before I can find out if they offer financial assistance. Plus, I am not 100% sure right NOW which type of career I want to go into until I research it a little more.
Plus, I've done so many searches on the internet, and all I get are sites that don't tell me much of anything that is actually useful.

Try

fastweb.com

scholarships.com

and other sites that will sift through scholarships and grants for you based on the modifications you make to the search or the general information you give them about yourself (never give out personal information such as social security number) without asking for pay (which is an indication of a scam) then talk with a financial aid advisor at the college of your choice.

Check out Federal Student Aid Web Site or FAFSA http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

I suggest you explore all federal funding and grant options at the Federal Student Aid website http://federalstudentaid.ed.gov/

You may also want to read the Handbook of the Pell Grant -- this is an 86 page document that contains everything about the grant
http://ifap.ed.gov/sfahandbooks/attachme...

Or you can call the Federal Student Aid Information Center http://www.ed.gov/programs/fpg/gtepfpg.p... at 1-800-433-3243 and ask them if there are any programs for women of your age

Aside from FAFSA http://www.fafsa.ed.gov and Pell Grant http://www.ed.gov/programs/fpg/index.htm... , you may want to explore private foundation grants

For private grants, you may want to check the Foundation Center's Foundation Grants for Individuals Online http://gtionline.fdncenter.org . It's a subscription based website ($9.95 per month) and their opening blurb says that the database is ideal for "students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices." You may be able to find grants from private foundations.
