Questions about about nursing school?

I am in a BSN program right now and am working on my general education requirements. What exactly are the clinical classes like? What should I expect? I have absolutely no experience in the medical profession, and I tend to get really nervous doing new things, so I hope I can get a heads up on what to expect.

Every nursing class will have some sort of clinical component (except pharmacology), even if it is only a laboratory experience. In these experiences, you will care for patients (generally one or two depending on what class) from head to toe, including treatments and medications (PO, IM, SQ and some IV).

For your earlier clinicals, you will need to report to your clinical area to prep (health history, history of present illness, allergies, medications, supplements, treatments and so on) the night before your experience. As you progress into the latter years this will fall away as you will be expected to know what you are doing and to take report like a nurse.

You will need to be on site early for a short preconference (kind of a low-key pep rally) and the day will be followed by a post conference where you present your case for the day and demonstrate how your experiences on the floor integrated what you learned in class.

Finally, clinical will be smooth sailing once you get past your first clean-up of fecal incontinence.
Good Luck
