Seeking a career change - go back to school for several years to work part time? |
I have been in health care since I was 18. I am now 26 and recently married. I live in an area that it is very difficult to get into an RN program so my best option 5 yrs ago was to enroll into an LPN program to bypass a long waiting list. After a rough 9 months of an intense, well respected program, I decided to take some time off from school.. and have never been back. Since then, I am not happy being a nurse and struggle with the ethical decisions I have to make every day. I love health care and the people I care for. I would love to do something in the radiology field which would take me about 3 yrs. However, all programs in my area have 3-5 yr waiting lists. After I have children (which I'd like to start doing in a year!), my goal is to work part time. AT this point, is it reccommended that I go back to further my education for a part time job? I'm tired of job hopping trying to find the "perfect" job. Sorry this is so long, I really feel stuck at the moment all i'm sayin is that school first then perfect job will come up it will be hard but one day it will pay off. Good Luck!! Dunno how to help you. But I myself is in the same situation. I'm currently taking an advance study in accounting in which I'd to take up on part time as I'm working at the moment. Well it depends on how you are gonna adjust yourself to these changes, if you could just speculate on what is up ahead if you were to take up any decision in life, then I guess you could take a step forward to achieve your goals. I understand. I'm going back to school myself in September. My sister, brother-in-law, and my mom all went into nursing after their orginal career fields. Nurses are in a high demand, hence the long waits for school. I to was in the health care field for about 10 years. I worked as an assistant to the doctors and nurses in the E.R. Trauma rooms in Hyde Park Chicago Illinois, need I say more!!!! The medical radiology field is pretty saturated with people looking for work. I dunno about waiting lists, many universities and community colleges offer certification programs. Nursing in most states require completed medical training to certify you for employment. |
