What is a good career choice in a small town? |
Due to my husband's good job we have settled in a small town. I have a liberal arts (w/ major in bus. admin) associates degree. I want to continue my education so I can have a fullfilling career (making pretty decent money) in a few years but I don't want to become a nurse or teacher. I thought maybe I could work in the HR dept at the hospital or in the public relations/marketing dept of the small college here and hopefully, with my degree, be eligible for advancement. I also have experience in mortgage lending and am interested in getting back into that field. Do you have any suggestions on what I should get my bachelors degree in/what career I should pursue? If you are interested in getting back into the mortgage lending field again, then I say go for it. maybe you can start a internet busienss. Check out what I do! you'd probably like to maybe do a little marketing at the school to be around the kids. It might make you feel like you're really contributing to the childrens education and making money at the same time. But whatever you decide to do, just don't try to become a professional duck whistler!!!!! this depends on the size of your small town. where i live small is less than 200 people. average is 50 - 100 thousand. large is something along the lines of 300- 1 million. so if small is small then use your degree in teaching as good teachers are in high demand in small areas. they also have a good respect in the community so you may not have the monetary reward but the impact in the community could be huge. if your small is more of an average size or located near an average size then i would say the lending part. good money , steady amount of people looking to improve, great community involvement potential. most average size towns have some type of college in them or near them so furthering education is possible. for me i am a real estate appraiser in an average regional town. and i am making decent money as the cost of living is lower here and i am able to raise the kids in a good environment. so what ever you end up doing make sure it something you feel good doing cause if you are not happy then the whole town will know it. Hospital is good,Bank Job ..no retail..poor pay |
