What do you think sounds like the best option given the following scenario. It's about education and careers

I was going to apply to do a degree in Nursing. I am a mature student and I started an access to Uni course in September. I am really enjoying being back in education and i am doing better that i thought i would. It's hard, but i am enjoying putting the effort in. I am studying Maths, English and Biology which is enough to get me onto a degree in Nursing, however, I had never eally considered doing anything else as i didnt think i would get the grades, but as it is now, i think i will. I have been looking a medical science degrees and also flirting with the idea of going the whole hog and applying for medicine. To do any of these i would have to put an extra year in at college and do Chemistry, i would probably also do Physics, just so i have all 3 sciences. Do you think i should go for the quicker route and go for nursing, or see if i can go the whole hog and go for science or medicine? I am only in my early 20's, so would still have plenty of time to carve a career in either.

I also feel that as i didn't stick in at school and was a bit of a joker that if i tell any of my family or friends they will think i am stupid and incapable of achieveing this. Do you think if i do decide to go for it that i shouldnt tell them what i am applying for and should just go for it and tell them if i do get in.

As you said in your question, you are young and you like college. You don't have to limit yourself to one avenue to a career. You should take the time to investigate all the possibilities and find out what you really want for yourself. What will make you happy academically? Realize, you are investing in yourself. If you want to better yourself and are not sure about the correct path, don't worry too much. You're in school and you enjoy it. Take all the classes you can afford and enjoy this time in your life. The hard decisions can come later.

Aim as high as you feel you are able. Nursing is not a second-best to medicine, but if you feel you have the ability to get into medicine, go for it. If you get on a course and find its too much, the need for nurses is so great you should be able to reconsider your options. Best of luck.

What would bring you the most happiness in life? God gave you the abilities to do your special task here on earth and when you use them for that task it creates satisfaction in your soul. It sounds like you are capable of taking these courses and passing them but do you want to be the nurse or the doctor? Do they have nurse practitioners where you live? Once you have made up your mind on what you want to do then focus on it. If people ask, tell them your decision. Their opinion of your decision is not necessary for your self worth. Though it sounds like to me that you are saying you have always wanted to be a nurse.
