I am 2nd semester, junior in nursing and I am NOT enjoying it...is there something else I can do? |
like switch to a different field that wouldn't take much more education (1 year or so?) Please help. I love teaching, but hate , hate , hate giving meds, and don't want to be a nurse. (Please don't say you should have known. I thought it would get better and kept plugging along, but it's only gotten worse.) I like the health field, but not nursing You could be a physical therapist assistant with a two What about working in medical records? Transcription isn't that far off from what you're doing - you need the medical terminology which you have already learned, some info about pharmacology - again, you probably already know it, etc. Wht about working in a perinatal clinic or doing radiology or sonography. There is always laboratory research too. Music; let me tell you some advice that I got from a good friend, great neighbor, and one hell of a teacher. When I was getting my BS in education he told me to stay focused and keep my eye on the prize. He works for a private university in the Chattanooga area; his program works with adult students. He told me that all the research he has done concerning students that quit school or changes majors usually occurs during the end of the sophmore/beginning of the junior year. He made this analogy: When you start school its exciting and new, kind of like walking into a tunnel you know you have to use in order to get to the other side. In the beginning you have the dayight at your back but it is completely dark as far as you can see. He said that the academic terms mentioned earlier are like the exact center of the tunnel. You no longer have the light behind you; and yet it is still just as dark in front of you! You could quit, change majors... whatever, but if you just keep on keeping on, I promise you you will begin to see the faint glow of the light at the end of the tunnel. No its not a train coming to run you down, it is actually the end, the prize, the ceremony where they hand you that piece of paper!!!! I guess what I am trying to say is run the good race, fight the good fight, and keep your eye on the prize! I went back to school when I was 29 with two kids, a job, and all the other factors that could have made me held me back but it didn't.... I graduated with a 3.6 gpa and I haven't looked back! No matter what you decided to do, think long and hard about the decision and then think about it again. Good luck. If you enjoy the science aspect of it, change direction and specialize in a field of biology. |
