Do you need a A.A.S in Nursing or a Diploma????

Im interested in becoming a Registered Nurse. The College that I am interested in attending offers a Registered Nursing program that awards you with a A.S degree in just science (NOT in applied science) and your diploma in nursing! Once you graduate, you can take the state exam to become registered. Is this a good program????? What are the pros and cons???? Will i be able to further my education in the furtue??? PLEASE HELP!!!
