Freshman Year classes for nursing major. I'm scared!!?

I'm very confused. They have in the course catalog for my college of choice that a nursing major has to take certain classes during each year of college and they listed the courses. It was like 8 courses freshman year. I'm scared cause how am I suppose to handle 8 courses a semester. Don't nursing majors get to choose classes too? I'm about to cry!

Some of listed classes were Physical education, foreign language, Composition, Chemistry, Physics, Communications, Social Sciences, American Political Foundations. And then the ones I would've taken anyways: Math, Psychology...

Well, all those classes just for freshman year. Can anyone help me?

8 classes for freshman year that leads me to believe that its 4 classes per semester. 2 semesters in freshman year.

However, what you need to do is talk to a counselor and find out for sure what you need to be taking to be on track.

4 classes per semester is not so bad. Thats actually fairly typical. So thats what im thinking. 8 classes per the entire freshman year but only 4 per semester.

that's impossible having 8 classes during semester. normally its 4-5 classes.

Course catalogs are more of a general guideline. They set up how they feel it is best to approach your major. Normally they have you take a majority of your general education classes in your first few years to get them out of the way. Also, because these classes maybe prerequisites for some of your later classes. I haven't really stuck to my course catalog schedule and everything is okay for me. However, they really wouldn't try to give you more than you can handle I don't think. Of course does seem like a lot. If you do have to take them all at one time I recommend making yourself a very comprehensive schedule that breaks down what time you will study for what as well as filling in all your other obligations like classes. This will make time easier to manage and make everything seem less overwhelming. I took 18 hours while working two jobs and was able to pull through with a 4.0 for the semester because I made a very strict schedule to manage my time. Don't worry though. When it is time to register you can sit down with an advisor and work everything out. Usually you can spread your schedule out by deciding to take some of the course in summer school if you are willing to do that. Hope this helps. Don't worry though. It will all work out fine.
