Query regarding access to HE courses re nursing?

I nearly completed my RGN training back in the '80's but left before qualifying to start a family. I'm now considering going back to nursing. It was recommended that I do an Access to Higher Education Certficate course as my 'A' Levels are now irrelevaent. Does anyone have any experience of this course and does it improve your chances of being accepted at Uni ? I'm hoping to follow the degree route.

an access to higher education is a great course to follow if you want to get back into nursing. I think you can study part time and the course contains a lot of relevant content which will stand you in good stead for your nursing degree. Nursing is a very tough course to get accepted on so if you have the access course behind you then you stand a better chance of being accepted. Also there is no diploma course anymore it is all degree now.

Why are your A-levels irrelevant?
Anyway doing an Access course is an excellent way to get into Uni. It helps you get back into studying if you have been out for a while and gives you the qualifications you need.
I did one and the tutors were really supportive, if you study specifically access to health studies, if they still do it, then even better.
Good Luck!

i would seek to find a university that offers a more open mature applicant acess policy, as long as you can satisfy that your englsih and maths are competant i would see no reason why yu could not enter straight on to the diploma, as entry any how is equivilant to 5 GCSES.

Shop around unis and have informal chats with the admissions tutors and access to nursing course is a complete was of time when you could be using that time to qualify.
