Can anyone help me sort out the differences between bachelor, masters and np in nursing? i am so confused!?

I have to do a paper for nurse leadership class and I am very confused about all of this. Is there somewhere I can go to get a list of what masters of nursing are offered? or does it depend on what school you go to? I was under the inpression that there were only about 5 things (ie education, public health etc) that a nurse could get a masters of nursing in. But I can't find anything like that on the web! Please help!!

Okay, let me help you to sort this out. Good luck on your paper. A master's in nursing allows a nurse to be more specialized in an area. A BSN simply allows a person completing the program to become an RN. A NP (nurse practitioner) is someone who has a masters to become a NP. There are a lot of specializations a nurse can choose from when getting a masters. Usually, the nurse prior to going into a master's program will choose her/his specialization. A nurse can choose to become a NP, a CRNA (certified registered nurse anesthetic), gerontology, etc. The type of masters you receive ALL depends on the school that offers the programs. There are very few universities that offer the CRNA while most universities offer the NP. The NP, I should mention, is a nurse who can do more such as prescribe medication (a big deal, really). So, to recap, the bachelor's makes all of those who complete the program an RN. A master's makes a registered nurse specialized in an area. To look for the different masters degrees offered, check with your college first. Again, good luck.

It depends on what school you go to..some offer master's and some don't. Pheonix of Arizona is an online school..they offer nursing programs..their website might help.
