Nursing director-What degree would you need?

If i were an RN and decided to further my education, and I wanted to become a nursing director, what kind of degree would i need to obtain and how long would it take to obtain it.

Generally a D.O.N. only needs a nursing degree. However, Healthcare administration master would look real good.

You can become a DON with just an RN....though a BSN wouldn't hurt.

Experience is as important as your degree.

You need at least a B.A. in Nursing and some places requires a Masters in Nursing. You are looking at 2 more years for a B.A. and 2 more years for a Master.

Please try: http://www.nursingmasters.com They have lots of good information on various nursing degrees both Bachelors and Masters

You'll need a Masters in Nursing Science, prefererably with a focus in Nursing Administration OR a healthcare administration MBA to get any decent position at any decent sized hospital. Sure you could get a dept. head position at some rural hospitals with only a BSN but even those places are becoming more competative all the time, A Masters is really the way to go.
This site has some excellent nursing career tract articles that would give you a lot of insight into different career focus areas within nursing & the educational needs for each:
