To Get A Degree Or Get Licensed in Nursing? |
I have been asking around and I still don't know. Does getting a degree in nursing matter much from geting licensed to do the job. I was wondering whether I should go to adult school and become a nurse or attend a two or four year university. The thing that sucks about the university here is that they the classes are overcroweded and the waiting period is 5 years along with a lottery system to get into those classes when you finish your pre - reqs. And then, there is adult school where i can get in and get out in about 2 years. People debate over the quality of education and what type of nurse you come out to be but from what i hear, they are all the same except for paywise. Please Help! Nurses of all kinds... I will speak from experience and tell you that a 2 year program does get you the same license as a 4 year school does. As far as the waiting period that depends on your grades and the admissions period when I went to school their were 2 option in applying. The first option was to submit your ACT or SAT scores, the second was do to your prequsites and then apply I went with the ACT scores option and was accepted as soon as I applied. The pay is the same and your oppurtunities are the same with either degree any one saying something else is speaking nonsense. I'm guessing by adult school you mean a diploma program. All nurses in order to be licensed have to sit the NCLEX. While it takes more time and money to get a degree in the long run it is worth the time and effort. Getting a degree in the short run wont make much of a difference depending on what city you live in the starting pay for nurses is the same whether they graduate from a diploma, ADN or BSN program. Unfortunately diploma and ADN grads may have to go back to school at the request of their employer to advance or hold certain positions. As for who knows more I can't say because you could graduate from any of these schools and still not pass the NCLEX. I would suggest taking the road that is best for you and your family. If you are unattached you may want to move to another city or state if nursing is what you really want to do. That could open your options. Good luck and hope I helped. |
