Lack of Oxygen at birth? |
My son who is now almost 3 was born purple he was so swollen that he couldn't open his eyes and he had no toenails. During childbirth one of the docs said I had a partial previa and he felt I should have a c-section well this other dr said no and I felt a few pulls and it still took my son a very long time to be born there were alot of dr's and nurses in the room and I never got any explanations or apgar scores now my son don't talk at all nor did he cry as an infant and he requires special education does what I describe sound like he had a lack of oxygen at birth? In case your wondering my son weighed over 9 pounds and that's why I thought he was swollen now I am unsure. If there were any problems with oxygen during childbirth, then the doctors should have informed you of this. You need to discuss this with your pediatrician, or better yet, a developmental pediatrician. Good luck! It is very possible that since it took him a long time to be born he could have partially suffocated from lack of oxygen. Once your water breaks, that's the sign for the baby to start breating on his own with his lungs. That's why they tell you that if your water breaks, the baby will be born within 24 hours. But his disabilities sound like deprivation of oxygen. Like someone who was underwater too long drowning. You have a legitimate case against the doctors and nurses who attended to your birth. You could sue the hospital but it won't change your son. Many people have babies born "defective" and they end up having everyday, normal lives. Just love your son all you can and let him know you are always there for him. |
