I'm thinking about going to school as a medical assistant to get into healthcare and get help w/ nursing.Help?

I'm hoping that becoming a medical assistant will help me in getting a better, cheaper, and easier nursing education.

Medical assistants very rarely do anything but the "scut" work in a hospital or nursing home. They clean patients, and MIGHT administer treatments. They feed and clothe, and babysit. They hand out bedpans, and clean up afterwards. You'll learn some medical knowledge, but will never be entrusted with actual "nursing" duties.

It's not BETTER. It's only cheaper and easier, and you will not be qualified to earn anywhere near the money a nurse does.

Everything you'd ever want to know (and need to know) about the medical assistant profession is explained at MedicalAssistant.net. This website is one of the best and most referenced website on the Interned dedicated solely to medical assistant students and professionals.

Everything is explained from the beginning (schools, what they will learn, what they can and cannot do, to the work place) to the end. There also is a great medical assistant web forum!!!! Thousands of mediclal assistants visit and trust this site.

What about going to a school like ITT or Sanford Brown or other Tech type schools? But I'm not sure why you think being a medical assist. will help you get to be a nurse cheaper, unless you're thinking an employer will pay for your education. Then that's always a chance issue

First you need a high school equivalency test. Then the practical nursing course is about 18 months. In some states the government pays for the course. Jobs are instantly available.
A registed nurse is a four year college and you have to pay for that. Expensive. They told me the Medical assistant is about like a registed nurse. So better call a college and find out.
But a practical nurse pays pretty good and they need them in male and female nurses.
