Is a collage an appropriate male nursing instructor gift?

Alot of guys don't like things like this, but it is so hard to find male gifts and as I prepare to graduate I thought about making my instructor a collage which would include things that he taught me and had to do with nursing both words and pictures. This would be in addition to a sincere thank you note for inspiring and helping me throughout my nursing education. I would of course frame it, but would he want it I wonder?? Or does this seem to feminine?LOL

I think the collage is a great idea, and agree with the previous answer that suggests that he'd appreciate it because of the thought you put into it.

However, framing it creates a sense of obligation that he should put it up on the wall. Once you're older than 5, no one should feel a need to display your crafts. I suggest you do this--make a collage, only less elaborate than you're thinking.

Perhaps make it into a card--unfolded, it's a full size collage, folded in half, it's a card. Include a note with your sincerest thanks, and a small gift certificate if you want/can afford it. If he chooses to post it on the wall, that's great. If not, I am sure that he'll at least hang onto it. Whether he's a guy or no, all instructors need a reminder now and then that they make a difference, and your gift does exactly that. It doesn't matter if the gift seems feminine or not, it's thoughtful and considerate, and that's what matters.

i think a collage is always an appropriate gift for anyone.

If I were your instructor, I would find such a gift highly flattering because of your sincerity and thought in putting together such a tribute. If you feel this strongly about what this instructor has given you and how he has inspired you, I'd say definitely go for it. I think he'll really appreciate it and keep it in a special place for the rest of his life. These are the kinds of things that really make teaching worthwhile.

Just buy him a beer and say thankyou.

I can think of nothing I'd like less than a collage... berlimey you don't half lack imagination.

A collage is something that is appropriate for a 5 year old to give their kindergarten teacher. You're supposed to be an adult. How many students do you imagine that your teacher sees each year? Do you imagine that your collage is going to have pride of place on his living room wall?

Should he have some special reason for remembering you?

If you really want to buy him a gift, find something a little more personal. So many people believe that a collage is 'personal' - it isn't. It just comes across as a cheap and nasty gift - after all anyone can stick a bunch of paper clipping into a frame.

Like I said, just say thankyou and buy him a drink. In three months time he won't even remember you.

I would buy him a gift certificate at a store that you think he would want to purchase something. Example, book store, clothing store, sports store etc. If you don't know his interests, then your best bet is a book store.

It depends on what type of a guy he is. If you think he's secretly a bit of a softy, he'd probably really appreciate the gesture. If he's more of a practical guy, go for something different. I had a friend bring his hawk (yes, his hawk!) to my class last year. My students loved it, so we made a collage in the shape of a hawk and gave it to him. At first I thought he didn't like it because he didn't say much. He later admitted to me that he was so choked up by the gift that he COULDN'T say much. It totally depends on the guy.
