I have a BA but not in nursing, can I waive any requirements?

Hi, I've already graduated from a 4-year undergrad school and obtained my BA in humanities. As you can see, no nursing education.
I'm interested in becoming a nurse (pref. RN). Is it possible to waive any requirements for BSN, ADN, or Diploma programs? This'll help save money and time.
In addition, which path would you reccommend?
Thank you.

YOu can waive most (maybe all--depends) on the undergrad pre-reqs and just do the core RN portion; if you have the nursing pre-reqs. Since you already have a BA either the BS RN or the Associate RN--see which school gives you the best package based upon you previous schooling.

Some universities have programs that let you go from a BS to a BSN in about a year. I know that the University of Arizona has such a program and I'm sure others do too.

Otherwise, you may have to take some specific pre-reqs, like Anatomy and Physiology, if you haven't already taken them. Then you would have to take the actual nursing classes, but your math, science, electives, etc, should all transfer.

There aren't many Diploma programs out there anymore. It's either BSN or ADN. You can go from ADN to a BSN via online classes, very easily. Both programs take the same state board exam in the end, so it depends on how soon you need/want to get out there and work. Honestly, it's been my experience that the BSN nurses have better theory education, but the ADN nurses are better prepared to hit the floor right out of school.

Look for accelerated BSN programs. They will transfer in all of your previous coursework and give you nursing classes/clinical experiences to qualify you for licesure. However, do know that there are prerequisites: Anatomy and Physiology (2 classes with lab), Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Psychology, and Sociology. Your Sciences must be within the last 5 years.
