An imaginary country - imagine you are planning an aid programme?

read the factfile about an imaginary country:
population: 10 million
GNP per capita: $100
unemployment: 30%
agriculture: poor soil - some production of bananas
industry: very little - a chemical factory in the capital
communications: most roads muddy - problems in the wet season; airport in need of repair; very few telephones
education: only 40% literacy rate; very few secondary schools
health: only 2 hospitals (100 hospital beds); poor sanitation - malaria in common
housing: many houses badly damaged in recent floods
natural disasters: bad floods in central river valley; danger of earthquakes
environment: several endangered species (including a rare kind of bear); main river and lake polluted by the chemical factory

-decide on your priorities and think of solutions to the problems; keywords: building schools & training teachers, building hospitals & training doctors and nurses, vaccinating children, modernised farming, recycling of materials, road building programme...

Well, focus on the basic necessities first e.g. food, water, shelter, clothing, because you can't send starving children to school. Build some hospitals (using people in your country) and import doctors, etc from other countries

after the basic necessities are established, then you can start building schools (lower unemployment rate) and hiring teachers (probably from other countries), building roads, training dotors &^ nurses, vaccinating farming, etc.

you'll need to borrow a lot of money from richer countries.

close down the chem factory cause it's poisoning all the water sources and killing environment.
