Nursing education to work in Oregon.?

Can anyone tell me the steps it takes to become a nurse practicioner in OR. and where could I find out about state requirerments and licenceing. If you are a nurse practictioner what is the next step to becoming a Doctor?

To become a nurse practitioner, you need to first earn a degree in nursing, either a 2 year associates degree or a 4 year bachelors degree. Eventually though you will need the 4 year degree to gain entrance into graduate school for the nurse practitioner program. You will also need at least 2 years of work experience, preferably in the specialty area in which you seek your NP certification, so if you want to be a pediatric NP you will need peds experience, etc.

Graduate degree programs for NP are usually 2-3 years in length and will earn you a master's degree.

If you want to be a doctor, don't waste your time with nursing. You will still have to attend medical school in full, which will be at least another 4 years (plus residencies and fellowships, etc.) on top of everything else. If you want to be a doctor, get a bachelors degree (nursing is fine, but biology is better), then take your MCAT (entrance exam for medical school) and don't waste your time on the NP.
