Depo provera shot - good or bad? |
hi, im currently on the depo shot missed my appointment 2day as im thinking of changing my birth control. due to just starting a period. havent had 1 of these for 14 months. and now have very bad pains and very heavy bleeding etc.. if you want to get pregnant soon, i would definitely stop the depo. you may or may not have difficulty getting pregnant. overall, I do not like depo, I think it has too many bothersome side effects. on the other hand, it is excellent contraception and if you dont bleed everyday or gain 30 pounds it is not so bad. Not good if you smoke or have a family history of blood clots or heart problems. Depo helped me with pain and cramps, but i would spot a lot. Never knew when I was gonna bleed. Yes it could take awhile to get pregnant. After getting off the shot it can take up to year just to get your periods back on a regular basis. If depo works for u its good. If it causes u problems its bad. If u want to start trying for a baby now then get off the shot now as it will take time for your body to get back to normal and get u pregnant. Depo shot can cause u to put on 5 pounds for every year u are on it. stop the depo if you want to get pregnant. like you heard it can take a long time afterwards to conceive. also the depo shot can cause bone loss leading to problems down the road. i also know it can give you significant weight gain. good luck discuss this with your doctor. |
