Using Lantus, what's the best injection site... belly or thigh? |
I'm just curious about the experiences of other people using this drug. I've been told by a nurse that the belly is the best site because the drug is better absorbed. All the information says both are fine. Having given enough subcut injections as a nurse, what my patients tell me is to give it where it is most comfortable. Generally that is in the belly because as your nurse has stated the absorbtion can be better there. But the thigh can be just as good as long, as well as your bicep area assuming your not to thin. My nanna is also a belly person and just alterates where she does it on her tummy to keep it comfortable. As with all insulin, you should rotate injection sites. Stomach... The fattiest part. Both are fine...I prefer the stomach though as it sometimes stings and the stomach takes it better...I've been taking it for 5 years so take my word for it. Usually when using Lantus, this ends up being a lifelong thing...something you will do for the rest of your life. So, after injections daily for years, scar tissue is going to build up, no matter where you use. This is going to decrease on absorbtion. Thigh is best - slower absorption at thigh, and Lantis should be absorbed slowly and last a long time. Stick it in your asss. That's the best place, seriously. I have been taking lantus for about six month's now, I inject in upper arms lower stomach, and thigh's. I have found the stomach is the least pain full for me. From what I have researched any place is fine in these areas where there is fatty tissue. Either site is fine. I typically use thigh more often. |
