Too fat for Depo-Provera?

My sister is overweight and gets Depo injections. Her weight has not increased with the Depo, but the horrible nurse she sees to give her the injections told her if she DOES gain weight, they might not be able to give her injections anymore as there are weight restrictions.

Well, I can't find any information online about a person being too fat for Depo. Does anyone know anything about this? I know that most women gain about 5lbs. but she hasn't, she's maintained the same weight for almost a year while on it. Was the nurse just being a horrible person and making my sister feel worse than she does already?

how heavy is she? height/weight?

It is true that some bc can be less effective if someone is overweight, depending on how much, etc.

I have no idea why she said she couldn't give her injections...it's really about how effective they will be.

AT the same time, I quickly looked online and didn't find this information either so I'd call another OBGYN (not your sisters) and ask.

I used depo at 21 stone ...............................and also the inplant.
I think it depends on the Family planning clinic or doc that you are with. They have to cover themselves.I understand the risk is higher when carrying too much weight.
Depo and the inplant used to stop my periods completely but since losing 10 stone they have returned with a vengance :(.
Feel free to email me steps40@hotmail.com

i dont think there are weight restrictions in having the injection but i believe that the more overweight you are the less effective it becomes which is y the nurse probably said that. but i do think she could have explained it better and not been so harsh!x
