Another question about tetanus.?

Hey everyone, I asked a question a few days ago about going to the ER for a tetanus shot from a wound I had recieved that day. Well, by suggestion of an oncall nurse, I ended up going and getting the shot that same night. Afterwards, I felt extremely relieved and didn't even think twice about it.

Later though, just out of curiosity, I started browsing the net about tetanus and found some information that was a bit unsettling. About 5 or so sources that I read stated that getting a tetanus shot right after an accident most likely wouldn't stop a tetanus infection since it apparently takes up to 4-5 days for the immunization to build up. The thing is, the nurse that I got the tetanus shot from assured me that I was in the clear since I had gotten the shot.

So I'm worried again; is it basically just a 50/50 chance now that I'll still get it or not? Is the tetanus vaccination really worthless if you get it after the fact? I feel foolish for asking about this again, but I'm concerned.

There are a lot of unreliable web sites out there. Trust the nurse at the emergency room. She is right. Actually you have 48 hrs after injury, but the sooner the better.

Here ia s link to web md. The site is fairly reliable and reviewed by doctors. I have taken you right to the information on tetanus.
