Nursing major - do i have a chance since i got a felony when i was 17yrs old it was a assault w/ deadly weapon |
Hi guys, I want to major in nursing but i want to know if i have a chance since i got a felony (assault with deadly weapon) when i was 17yrs old. I really want to go into nursing but what are my chances? and what can i do? can anyone give me any information or anyone who went through the same situation. any information will help! Thanks! Thanks guys for the information. I was 17 when the crime happened and i was found guilty and now i am 23 years old taking the prereqs for nursing so its been almost 7 years now. I tried sealing the record by myself without an attorney when i was 18years old but the judge denied it because under section 707b that any felony under that section cannot be sealed. So i dont know if i should try again. This time i will try to get an attorney instead so hopefuly everything will go well. Anymore information will help! thanks guys! =) If you were found guilty as a minor, then you're good to go. If found guilty as an adult, you should contact the nursing board and ask them. Since you're going to be around lots of people all of the time, sometimes in very stressful situations, I'm not sure how successful you're going to be in finding a job if you can get into a program. People might be a bit weary of hiring you to be around others knowing this. At 17 ?? You may be able to get the record expunged or sealed since you were pretty much a juvenile. See an attorney. Was it dismissed? Did you serve time? It all depends on the answers to these questions. You really should talk to the admissions person to the nursing school you want to attend for answers. Its up to them to tell you the specifics. How old are you? This is a relevant question because if it has been a long time, then you have a good chance of sealing your court records. I recommend contacting a local attorney regarding filing a motion of expungement. If you desire to complete this task on your own, then contact the county court and request more information on how to seal your court records (filing a motion of expungement). Hey, I kinda had the samething..What I did was called the Police station and they said that you can get a back ground check on yourself. It may cost around $30.00.Just a little paperwork to fill out. Mine wasn't on my record because the state of La. at 17 I was still a minor.Good luck with that. ooooo...thats kind of a toughie... but since you were a minor then, they might give you a break...if you have been out of trouble since then, you can go to the courthouse and have them take it off of your record, i forgot the term for this but its something judgement, withheld judgement or something like that.... |
