I'm trying to lose weight while nursing my 4 month old. How many calories should I eat per day? |
This is my first child and I'm trying to get from 123 pounds to my pre-pregnancy weight of 105-107. I've lost 23 1/2 pounds pretty much from nursing and not having a baby inside me anymore! LOL! I am 5'2", 23 years old and have just started to work-out again. About 30-50min. 5-6 times a week. I'm eating between 1600 and 2000 calories/day. I want to make sure I'm maintaining quality breastmilk, while also losing weight safely. I've heard that you're supposed to take in anywhere from 300-500 extra calories while nursing; but I haven't found info about calorie intake if you're trying to LOSE weight while nursing. If anyone has some info it would be greatly appreciated! You should NOT attempt to lose weight while nursing. You need to consume those extra 300-500 calories because you automatically butn this much more a day while nursing. What happens if you do not consume the extra 300-500 or worse yet go on a lower caloric intake while nursing? Well, you are not giving your baby the nutrients it needs. Please do not attempt this losing weight thing until after nursing. Of course eat right and exercise but do not LOSE weight..there is a reason why you cannot find this information on the internet,,,because you are not supposed to do it! WELL I PRETTY MUCH ATE WHAT I WANTED TO EAT AFTER I HAD MY DAUGHTER IT WAS HARD TO GO FROM EATING ALMOST ALL THE TIME TO ONLY 3 MEALS A DAY. BUT I STILL LOST THE WEIGHT. I WALKED ON A TREADMILL EVERYDAY FOR AT LEAST 20 MINUTES FOR ABOUT A YEAR. IT SEEMS LIKE IT COMES OFF SLOWLY, BUT IT DOES COME OFF. YOU DIDNT GAIN VERY MUCH DURING YOUR PREGNANCY, I GAINED 45 LBS! First, go you! keep nurning! it in itself burns calories. Walking and exercising is good too. it sounds like you're doing great. you can probably eat normally; not as much as when you were pregnant. 2000 is good. I know my mom (who nursed my sister till she as 2 years old) got back to her normal size just by waling all over town with her in the stroller, and nursing, and eating healthy and normal. (lot's of fruits and veggies, less meat) . Keep up the great work!!!! |
