How many times should a nurse be allowed to fail his/her boards multiple times and still have a job?

I just wonder. I work in an ER and we have 4 nurses who have failed their boards. Two of them have failed for the third time, and two of them have failed for the second time. Personally, I don't want them near me as a patent and our employer has keep them as techs untl they pass. How many chances should they have before they are fired? If you work on healthcare how many times does your employer allow? How do you feel about this issue?

In the state I live in you take the BOARDS just after Grad., once you pass you never take them again, as long as you stay current on eucation and pay your license renewals on time. I know someone that is taking them for the 5th time but has to take a remedial course. The BOARDS are very tough and many people have to take them multiple times. I passed first time but my daughter had to take the test twice.

In my opinion, doctors, nurses, etc. should be placed on leave if they fail, and remain on leave until they pass. Unpaid leave that is, as it is stupid to make a hospital pay its employees for not working.

2, first time should be a wake up call that they may have just wasted all that time in nursing school, if they fail a second time then it seems as though they may not be serious about their jobs and are in it for the money.
