Levi, I suggest you start applying now because offers that you get as an expatriate will be better than local hire. If they hire you form Abu Dhabi as a local hire, you will not get annual air ticket to your country and you will be responsible for your accomodation (which is pricy).

starwhitedwarf is absolutely right. Try to secure a contract from outside the UAE.
Well pay, living cost, travel expenses and many other benefits for expatriates.
