Whats the chance that I can move to Europe and get a job with 8 wks vacation?

I heard usually Europeans have 6-8 wks of vacation per year.
Do Americans who move over there and secure a job typically get the same type of benefits or no? I am a nurse. Ty!

Most Europeans get 20 or 25 working days off each year, that is 4 or 5 weeks, on top of that, often they work 36 hours per week average but 40 hours each week, the time they work extra each week is given as whole days, but not to be added to the holidays.

Most companies accept that their employees take one holiday just over 3 weeks, and a second one that is just over a week. It is rare to find a job where you can get 6 weeks off, 8 weeks is very rare indeed.

In hospitals long holidays are harder to get, but with the shiftwork you might have a weekend that is 4 days, take one shift (week) of holiday and have an other long weekend, and for 5 days of holiday you can get 2 weeks off. But on the other hand, many times you have less than 2 days between shifts and have to work when others are free.

In most of Europe all workers in a company (or hospital) get the same benefits, so also the same amount of days off.
But as a foreign worker you may not always get unemployment benefit if you are fired and you will centainly not get social security money if you do not get enough because you do not work enough hours. (Which locals sometimes do get if needed.)

As a nurse you should have a good chance to get a job in Europe, but you will need to learn the local language even before you can start working, (unless you go to the UK or Ireland.)

That's a lot, I think 5 is more like it.
Although my sister-in-law is a nurse and I think she gets 10 or 13 weeks because now she teaches nursing instead, in Switzerland.

As far as I know, benefits don't depend on your nationality (at least not in Switzerland).

Do you speak a European language? That would definitely be key for a nurse.

If you are an RN., it would probably be best for you to go through an international agency. I believe cost of living is much higher there and salaries lower. I believe you would make more money and have more time off and more control of your schedule if you signed up with a travelling nurse agency in the U.S. you can do a web search for agencies like the one below.

Nurses can get jobs in Ireland very easily. I have no idea if you'll get 6-8 weeks immediately. The standard in Ireland is 4 starting off, but it goes up after a few years service.

All public holidays are extra.
