Do nurses and other healthcare professionals get free healthcare coverage as a job benefit?

No.

Yes, in most of the countries healthcare personnels have healthcare coverage. Whereever in countries they dont have coverage, they themselves are covered unofficially. Hence, they are well protected lot.

I've been in the health care field for 31 years and we pay just like every one else. A medical practice may occasionally cut you a break and give you a "professional courtesy" but that doesn't happen very often. With the nursing shortage nationwide wouldn't free health care be great incentive for young people to choose nursing as a career?

No not usually , although it would depend on the company you work for. At best you may receive a discount or something like that.
