My pregnant wife works in a nursing home where some of the residents have a contagious flu-like virus...? |
She is currently 6 months pregnant and I don't want anything to happen to the baby by her contracting the virus. She is taking every precaution she can i.e. washing hands very often, staying out of patient rooms that say "speak to nurse before entering" ect, but I still worry about her and our baby's safety. Should she risk losing her job by not going to work? She is already under some stress because she is unhappy with her co-workers who show her little respect. She is a dietitan and part of her job entails meeting with patients and watching them at mealtimes. Does anyone have any advise for us? i would suggest going over your budget to see if you can afford for your wife not to work.. also who carries the health insurance? there's alot of things to think about before having your wife leave her job.. but if you both think it could work then i would think it would be a good idea for her to leave. you don't want to take the chance of anythng happening to the baby.. maybe she can talk to her doctor and see if he/she recommends a leave of absense.. good luck.. OK first of all congrats. on your baby i am going to have a niece pretty soon. Second of all she needs to worry more about herself and the baby than anything else. If her co-workers don't care she shouldn't care either. she should stop stressing because it will affect the baby and herself. If it was me i would get a new and better job. Hope everything works out good. Being a health care facility they should understand her concern. Do you guys have the means for her to quit her job right now? If not she could wear a face mask and she should speak with her dr. I WORKED IN A NURSING HOME WHEN I WAS PREGNANT WITH MY FIRST CHILD AND THE ONLY THING THAT SHE NEEDS TO BE CONSERNED WITH IS CONTAGIOUS STUFF LIKE SHINGLES, AND MERSA A STAFF INFECTION. THAT IS THE STUFF TO BE WORRIED ABOUT AND THEY ARE USUALLY NOT ALLOWED IN THEM ROOMS BECAUSE OF THEM CONDITIONS I worked in nursing homes with all 3 of my pregnacies. we had plenty classes on patient care especially those with high risk infections. As long as she has good hand washing skills she will be fine.there are gowns face masks ,etc for protection. if going under alot of stress then she shouldn't work. all the stress can lead to complications at birth. she should take it easy. she could get maternity leave then come back after the baby is born. (of course, not right away) |
