NURSES- What is it that you really HATE about your job?

If was to join - what are the bad points?

Touching eyes! ewwwwwwwww

whenging patients and relatives, sputum aarrgh

The thing that I really hate about my job are the co-workers that call in sick and you know they aren't sick because they were talking about a party that they would like to go to but they supposedly can't go cause they have to work. THey have no real consideration for their job, co-workers or patients.

It varies from where you work. In our country, we are not well-compensated. But the most rewarding is when patients thank you because you have touched their lives.

My daughter works in a hospital oncology wing... it really bothers her to have young patients dieing... while they suffer from radiation burns and skin coming off in unimaginable places.

i was a n/a for a3 years now studying to be a midwife, the worst i think is when people who come in for treatment drunk they get aggressive and abusive when all your trying to do is help, some nurses have been assaulted thats why now alot of hospitals etc will not tolerate it i never used to,i worked a & e prob worst department to work in but i enjoyed the hands on and the different situation everyday.us n/a s get under estimated for what we do i could do most things put up syringe drivers take out canulars etc just couldnt dish out the medicine...

Non-compliant patients who blame everyone else for their problems when they don't improve.
Also, hospital managers who play politics and don't value their good nurses - losing sight of what is most important - GOOD PATIENT CARE!
And..........doctors who can't communicate effectively.

First ask yourself why you want to join? There are many bad points from nasty patients, nasty patients family, nasty colleagues, nasty doctors, etc.. to long working hrs, shift work, miserable salary, etc.. Everything could be bad, depends on what you had, who you meet.

Being an older nurse, and remembering " The good old days" I hate administrators behind desks with no practical idea of Nursing, putting constraints and obstacles in place that prohibit good nursing practise and has a detrimental effect on patients and a demoralising effect on good nurses. I was once told by one such desk bound authority that it was better to ensure that the computer records showed that a patient had had a bed bath than the fact that time constraints and poor staffing was such that it had been omitted.

There`s alot of rewarding things in nursing. It`s got to a point where i don`t focus on the bad points anymore for my own sanity

the fast paced, heavy workload when a co-worker calls in sick or the facility is plainly understaffed..you have so many things to do that you sometimes cant have time to eat or sit down...it can be exhausting!

patients more patients

I,v been an N/A in the NHS now for 17 years, and believe me I would not want to join now if I knew what it was like,The only thing that keeps me there is my service and the fact that I am in the pension, although saying that being in the pension is good I,m beginning to wonder as the way we are treated I will not see my pension as I will be dead,OVERWORKED AND UNDERPAID that is an understatement,There is supposed to be 4 N/As on an early shift and you are lucky if there is 2 on 3 N/As on a back shift lucky if you get 2 more often than not you are on yourself N/Shift should be 2 and again more often than not your on your own. And they still expect the work to get done. You often don,t get a break as there is too much work left to do, and we often get rostered on for 10 shifts in a row, asked manager if she would do it reply was (no but I,m not you)They are slowly killing us, the reason they can,t get workers is the way they treat you you are nothing but a slave and slavery was supposed to be abolished.Do you still want to join us...

i would say dont do it, choose a different career...after 14 years of nursing in the uk i gave it up before i lost my sanity, rubbish pay, rubbish hours, terrible managers and politics, rubbish working conditions, awful doctors, stupid patients... by the end i couldnt see the good side of any of it..thats why i left but i have plenty of friends still their desperate to get out.
