Is Nursing a good career to get into?

Hi there I am thinking of changing my career and I am not to sure what nurses do on a daily basis. I keep hearing wiping butt and poop but honestly that can't be the whole job.

I already work in a hospital, but I am in a clerical position away from patients and nurses, so this is why I am asking.

Up here in Canada there is a lot of positions availble it seems and I just want to know some opinions?

I'd recommend taking a day and shadowing the nursing staff, or find someone who works in the nursing area and see if they would be willing to meet with you over lunchtime.

I used to be an HR manager in a nursing home. You need to love nursing to want to be in this career. If you are only going into it for job security, it is not the field for you.

You will be multi-tasking, because you need to ensure that everything is charted (documented) correctly., you will be responsible for administering doctor's orders including meds. You will be handling lots and lots of paperwork, as well as assessing patient's conditions on behalf of the doctor. You are the primary liaison between the doctor and the patient, which is why a good nurse often knows as much as a doctor.

well here in the usa nurses aids are the ones that do the hard work. Nurses most of the time is administer medication and things that the nurse aide is not certified for.

In Canada I dont k now how that works
