We have 24hr nursing for our disabled daughter. Can I be payed to do what they do?

I am not trying to "get payed to be a parent", but medicaid payes out a lot of money for her nursing care. She has Aperts Syndrome, she has a trachiostomy tube, g-tube and other issues. We have been told that we know her best, so why can't we get payed a fraction of what the nursing company gets payed. My wife cannot return to work, and I have had to change jobs because our situation. I don't want hand outs, but I hate waste. Seems that if we could survive off part of what they pay the nurses then it would benifit the child and the government program that writes the check. Please help if you have any ideas or if you have been through this yourself. Thank you and God bless.

If you perform acts of caring for your child, disabled or not, it is called parenting. Ever since there have been children, the parents of sick children have taken care of the child to some extent, or if unable, used to place them in nursing facilities. It is only with the advances in health care that home health nursing has become a reasonable alternative to nursing home care.

If parents started to request to be paid for caring for the children in the home, rather than have trained home health, the government would probably find it less expensive to set up state or federal nursing homes or pay for nursing home care.

Leave your child with the trained staff, and help as you are able.
