Help, I want to quit my job.? |
Hi I have worked at a nursing home for 5 months with no written contract that I can remember I work around 16 hours a week and I get paid monthly. I heard you have to give a months notice if you get paid this way by a friend. If you have no contract, and are working part-time anyway, you stand to lose nothing by accepting a new job offer. It is a courtesy to your present employer to let them know, and to give them time to replace you, but it's probably not legally required. if you leave without that notice then your reference is ruined. Just let it go. If you have the job offer already then you dont need reference. It's doubtful that you signed any kind of contract to work at the place you are at now. Your current employer has no choice but to pay you for any hours that you have worked after you have quit, whether you gave any notice at all...much less a months notice. I would simply go to your boss and let her know that you have a better offer somewhere else and then just let her deal with it. YOU are the only person who will take care of you as far as your employment goes. Who cares if your current employer gets upset with you? If they are not the best place in town to work at then they need to improve so that they can retain people such as yourself. Go for it! Since you already have the other job just take it!! A reasonable amount of notice when you are leaving a job is two weeks unless you have to leave a little sooner. This gives your old boss a chance to find someone new to take your place and may even allow you to train this person. It sounds as if your boss isn't very understanding; but treat her the way that you would want to be treated if you were the boss and give your her the resignation letter. Ask yourself this question; is your boss someone that you would want to work side by side with again in the future? If the answer is no, you don't need to use her as a reference. Use a good, hard-working, respected and trustworthy employee, supervisor or owner as a reference, always. Never use someone that you may not respect. If you have already been offered the other job and don't need to use this job as a reference then just write up your resignation and put it on the "dragons" desk. Maybe she will let you go early, if you are lucky. |
