I was a CNA in a nursing home, because of a case of neglect was put on the registrar,Can I re-apply?If so How??

I had a resident that was on the toilet, the call light was on,the lady was sitting there ready to get up,she was a 2 assist ,but i could not find anyone,so I thought I could help her,but ended up injuring her,I thought I did the right thing, but no one was around to help me w/the resident.I had a court date at the nursing home where it happened but due to me not having a good lawyer,I had no one to defend me.Trust Me I never meant to hurt the woman,to this day it sickens me because I loved my job,and now I need to know if anyone knows if i can re-apply or not?

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I know how difficult it is to find help when you need it in a nursing home. I don't think you could reapply, but I would check with whatever state agency takes care of the registry where you are after the court hearing is over.

If the state said no, then probably not.

You can't make decisions like that on your own, there is a reason why procedures and orders are in place, and if you violate them, then you are choosing to accept the consequences.

A lawyer would not have helped you, since you clearly violated policy. Short-staffing is NEVER an excuse to not follow policy.

I am sorry this happened to you, but also sorry it happened to the patient/resident.
I was a unit manager for a nursing home for several years and had to let people go several times for being in the same predicament as you, and unfortunatley the sad thing is that once you have a report of any abuse or neglect, for whatever reason, you are unable to work in healthcare any longer. You may be able to work in some positions, but never with direct patient care. You will not even be able to qualify to sit for the Board exam if you were to ever go to nursing school.
As stated previously, policy is policy, and a 2 person assist should have been assisted by 2, no matter what. Yes, many people do it otherwise everyday and get away with it, but now many will learn from your mistake.
Try not to beat yourself up, but be prepared to find work in another field all together.
Good Luck to you
