Nursing homes?

I work in a nursing home and they recently put up cameras. The employees dont really seem to have a problem with it but the residents do. they feel like they dont have any privacy. Some of them are asking me to do something about it. But i dont know what. If i stand up and say something i could lose my job or my life could be made hell while im there. Any help you could give me would be great! XOXO

Good for you, for asking!
You can help residents understand and exercise their rights, and weigh the pros and cons of having cameras in their home.
Look through residents' rights for your state (should be posted in a public area of the home), &/or the federal residents rights (in Medicaid/Medicare certified homes) regarding residents' right to privacy. Also, look at rights related to filing a grievance with the facility. If they have this information when they go to the resident council meeting, it could be far more constructive.
Yes, you could call your local ombudsman - go to www.nursinghomeaction.org to find yours. You can ask their office for help in informing residents of their rights; this is a confidential service - they will not reveal that you called unless you give them permission to do so.
You can also read federal residents' rights at:
http://ecfr.gpoaccess.gov/cgi/t/text/tex...

Just tell them to tell the owner or the head nurse.

If the cameras are not in areas where personal care is provided I doubt there is much that can be done about it. Hallways, Medrooms etc are public areas with the exception of nurses or cmt's being allowed in the med room. You might tell the residents that are complaining to bring it up in a resident council meeting if you have those or speak with the ombudsman about it. Ombudsman are good at sticking their nose in stuff...esp if its something they have no clue about. lol

And as a charge nurse...please don't send them to us! That is a social services/administration problem. We have way too much to do as it is.
