How do I stop being so emotional at my new job? |
I started a new job as a Labor and Delivery nurse almost 4 months ago...it's a new grad program where you have a preceptor and are on orientation for 18 weeks. Well L & D is incredibly stressful, and even though I have most of the skills down, the littlest thing sets me off emotionally (like if I'm doing something wrong and am critiqued by my preceptor) My preceptor is incredibly sweet and a pretty decent teacher, although often times her language barrier is a source of difficulty. (She sprt of speaks broken English)...I'm normally not that emotional of a person....but I'm almost ready to just give up. Any suggestions? PLEASE don't be rude or make fun. This is serious. Hang in there, you're sort of paying your dues. Everyone goes through this and you're having a tough time, but things will get better if you hang in there! :) Lose an x-chromosome and gain a y-chromosome. You are there to learn, always remember that. Your preceptor knows that too. Remember that she gives critique not to be mean to you or put you down, but to make you a better nurse! Your preceptor also knows that You know I would probably be the same way. Its hard to learn for me and it would make it really difficult if I had to guess what the teacher was saying. I would probably be mad alot because I wouldnt know what I was doing. Then if I got something right I would be like awsome but if I was getting it wrong I would be like well telling myself well if I could understand you, but I would sayng that to myself not the teacher...I hope you the best of luck and if have went 4 month you will do great. I hope you the best. Nursing is a very personal experience because the skills that we apply come from the heart. Anyone can change a dressing, pass a med or give an injection. It takes that extra special someone to show compassion, empathy and advocacy to all who cross their path. You are more than just a nurse, you have the honor to be present at the very tender moment in time where two people see for the first time the greatest accomplishment in their life together: their child. You comfort them when they are scared, you provide education where knowledge is deficient and more than these: you care. |
