Nursing Home Employees, Please Help!!!?

Hey! In my Sociology class, we are talking about workplace changes over the last decade. My team chose to do our paper on the changes in nursing homes. What I am looking for are your personal experiences, any particular memories or stories, frustrations or things you are glad to see changed... Anything goes, really, but please keep all answers courteous and respectful, as anything inappropriate cannot be used for our paper. Also, if you don't mind saying, the approximate metro area you work in (for your privacy, please don't give the specific city, just the area), and your position at your job. Thanks for you help!!!

Some areas to cover, if interested, are work atmosphere changes, policy changes, employee comraderie, amount of support received from either employer or home, ease of job, overall satisfaction with payrate, etc...

I have worked in a nursing home & the no.1 change that
desperately needs improvement is the amount of help.
They assign too many patients to one nurse or nurses aide &
these people need to feel companionship with their care-
takers. Of which is almost impossible when you're moving
from patient to patient as fast as you can, just so you can
get to everyone you're assigned to.

Unfortunately, everything Talarlo, Rhonda & Susan wrote is true.
Our seniors deserve more respect.
I'm in the suburbs of Philadelphia.

Thanks Butterfly & good luck with your paper! Report It

Maybe you should repost this question in Sociology Category.

Everything has changed. We have to have a doctor's order for EVERYTHING. We used to be able to restrain a person when needed and now it is illegal. We can get in trouble for calling someone hun or sweetie. The only thing that hasn't changed is the fact that night shift and day shift can't get along. The payrate sucks. We work our azzes off to take care of these people and we get paid the same if not less than fastfood workers. I live in MO and I am a CNA and my wife is nurse.

i lasted 2 days working as an aid at a nursing home about 20 years ago. it was the worst job ive ever had. the system needs a complete overhaul period. the employees need to be more educated. there needs to be more activities. family and outsiders should be encouraged to visit more often. i could go on and on.
sorry

I have worked in a nursing home in the Eastern part of the US, as a registered nurse. The work is very hard, the paper work is to the point of, do they want us to take care of the residents or do paper work?
Focus of late has been on dignity issues. The nursing home is their home away from home.
