Between a Bach. of science in nursing, and a asso. in nursing is there a difference in jobs...?

From what I have been hearing in the area that I live- there really isn't much of a difference. The only thing that going in for the BSN provided was a leg up on studies when they wanted to get their Masters.

Both had no problem finding work.

initially, not much difference, but the BSNs get all of the promotions.
If you wish to join the miltary, you need a BSN.
Well, reservists can get commissions with an ADN, but not if you want to go regular.
All of the really good jobs are closed to ADNs regardless of how many years of experience you have

Nope! Whether you graduate with an ADN or a BSN, you take the NCLEX licensing exam and if you pass, you are an RN! Pay is the same, jobs are the same, etc. I have my BSN now but I originally graduated with an ADN (assoc. degree in nursing) and I had no problem finding a job whatsoever...in fact I had so many job offers, it took me awhile to decide which one I wanted! Neither I nor anyone I know was ever passed over for someone with a BSN because I only had an ADN. That pretty much doesn't happen in nursing if you are applying for a staff nurse position at a hospital. The nursing shortage is everywhere and if you have a license, they want you! If you ever want to go to grad school, you should get a BSN though, it is the foundation and considered the entry-level for professional nursing.

I pay the same for either a ADN or BSN. Doesn't make a difference to me. Initially, the ADN is more in tune for hands on work due to more clinical hours during school.

Several people on this forum believe that you can only become management if you have a BSN or Masters. Sorry, but i don't see that. Most employers will state they accept equivalent which is years of experience in trade for the degree. And NO, it doesn't take years to climb a ladder. Just a steady interest and committment. Very seldom would you find someone without experience in a management position anyway.
