I am looking for a new job and need to use my past job as reference but my manager is no longer there?

I left my job of almost 1 year as director of nursing. I left under good terms and stayed on PRN well during my stay as PRN evidently rumors where flying around and it was said that I was talking bad about the facility and the 'NEW' administrator decided I should not be working PRN. So that was that. I was never given an explaination or anything, just not scheduled anymore and when I requested my PTO was told I was not eligble, which was fine only a few hours. But now I am looking for a new job and not sure how to handle my references. I am afraid they will give me a bad one, which is unjust, but what can I do. I never worked under the new administrator, so she can not fairly give me a referance on way or the other. But I cant lose a whole year of nursing managment experience. HELP!!!!!! Would it be professional to use my co workers since my supervisor is no longer there?

You can refer them to other people in the company you have worked with or know you well. The HR Department is also another referral source. You could also use letters and other documentation to prove your worthiness for the job. Just explain why your former manager cannot be contacted.

Peace and blessings!

Human resources will not allow a bad reference to be released. They can not prevent you from getting a job for fear of being sued.

I am going through a similar situation myself. There is a lot of bad feeling at work because I got the union involved over a pay matter and then my work slipped because of personal reasons. I am trying desperately to leave but my reference is not great and refers to the fact that I am under examination for poor work. Not great! I have decided to leave and then use a co-worker as a reference, even though she works in a different department. Not sure if that is going to work as she is not my employer, but I cant stay where I am or I will lose the will to live. I have the greatest sympathy for you and wish you well.
