Is it possible for an employee to be abused in a nursing home by a resident?


The resident is jeopardizing my job to the director of nursing by telling lies on me, telling people that she is going to get me fired, calling me out of my name, and I heard the director of nursing tell her that she beleives what she is saying and I'm afraid that I will go to work one day and I will be out of a job. What should I do?

Instead of listening to the rant of a resident, who most likely has some kind of mental challenge, the director of nursing should give you an opportunity to prove your innocence of the accusations made by this resident. If there is no validity to those charges, you have nothing to worry about. In a court of law, a person is innocent until proven guilty. You may have to consult a lawyer on this, and provide documentation of all alleged charges. Good luck!

Talk to your supervisor and human resources person about it. If you are providing direct care try to have someone else provide that resident care. If it is necessary talk to your administrator and see if they can talk to the resident or family about the issue. Good luck!
